The Language of the Gurus In this 8-week course, you will learn to read and pronounce the sacred script of Gurmukhi. Gurmukhi was brought to life by the Gurus of the Sikh tradition. As we bring its sound current through our bodies, we are reminded of the truth of who we are. ​​Gurmukhi, which means, “from the mouth of the Gurus,” is alive with Divine vibration. The Gurus, in their state of bliss and enlightenment, spoke and sang Divine poetry. As it flowed through them, it touched the souls and the hearts of the people who listened. Connecting to the original sound current of the Gurus, through Gurmukhi, is such a beautiful experience. One that grounds us and brings us into the vibration of our Soul. In Beginner’s Gurmukhi, we will start our journey by learning to identify the different letters and sounds, and then move our way into reading familiar mantras that we know and love. You will be reading simple words after the second week, and by the end of the course, you will have the knowledge and the confidence to begin reading Gurmukhi, on your own! This course consists of 8 weekly livestream sessions via Zoom that will take place on Fridays from 11am-1230pm EST AND Sundays from 11am-1230pm. There is also an additional weekly session for reading and pronunciation practice. This session is optional but attendance is strongly encouraged. Date and time TBD in class. Classes will be recorded so that you have the opportunity to go back and watch them again for future reference and learning. Sangat Dhyan Kaur is an American Sikh who has been studying and learning Gurmukhi for the last 7 years, while living both at the Millis Ashram in Massachusetts, and now in Amritsar, India. Her time in India has been spent immersing herself in the study of Gurmukhi, Gurbani Kirtan, Punjabi, and meditation.
