Singing Kirtan, which is essentially devotional music to God, is an incredibly healing practice for oneself, one’s family, and one’s community. This online course is a way to begin your Kirtan journey on the harmonium with three Mantras; Aad Guray Nameh, Chattar Chakkar Varatee, and the Mool Mantra. It includes foundational teachings from the Sikh tradition of Kirtan on how to play the harmonium, how to sing and understand musical notation, how to keep the rhythm, how to open one’s voice, how to pronounce and understand the Gurmukhi words in each Mantra, a basic understanding of the history of each Mantra, and support tools and teachings to experience confidence, devotion, and meditative awareness in your Kirtan practice. This course consists of 13 livestream sessions taught by Sat Tara Kaur, who has worked with Snatam as her assistant and co-teacher since 2015, and Amrit Neer Gyan Kaur, a fellow Kirtanee from Germany. Amrit Neer Gyan has been studying with Snatam Kaur, Prabhu Nam Kaur and Sat Tara for many years now. She is a very skilled teacher with a sensitivity to what will elevate a students connection to themselves and the material they are learning. “Sat Tara Kaur is a kind and perceptive teacher, who has the capacity to meet her students at their level, and inspire them to embark on a journey into chanting that has the capacity to bring forth joy, personal discovery, and musical empowerment.” -Snatam The course is a combination of instruction from Sat Tara Kaur & Amrit Neer Gyan Kaur to the whole class along with 1 to 1 feedback and guidance with each student. The attendees for this course range from being complete beginners with no prior musical experience, to people with musical experience, but who have had no prior experience with Sikh traditional Kirtan. The group classes have many positive benefits that all blossom from the magic and sweetness of community. Please allow for 30-60 minutes of practice time each day while taking the course for maximum benefit. You will need access to a harmonium, which can be ordered through our school here - https://www.kirtanandkundalini.com/shop
