Singing Kirtan, which is essentially devotional music to God, is an incredibly healing practice for oneself, one’s family, and one’s community. This online course is a way to begin your Kirtan journey on the harmonium with three Mantras; Aad Guray Nameh, Chattar Chakkar Varatee, and the Mool Mantra. It includes foundational teachings from the Sikh tradition of Kirtan on how to play the harmonium, how to sing and understand musical notation, how to keep the rhythm, how to open one’s voice, how to pronounce and understand the Gurmukhi words in each Mantra, a basic understanding of the history of each Mantra, and support tools and teachings to experience confidence, devotion, and meditative awareness in your Kirtan practice. This course consists of 13 livestream sessions taught by Amrit Neer Gyan Kaur. She has been studying with Snatam Kaur, and Prabhu Nam Kaur for many years now, and co-teaching with Sat Tara since 2022. She is a very skilled teacher with a sensitivity to what will elevate a students connection to themselves and the material they are learning. "Amrit Neer Gyan Kaur is very devoted to sacred sound current, and with loving intention and care meets her students exactly where they are to help them open into their own sense of joy and renewal through chanting." -Snatam The course is a combination of instruction from Amrit Neer Gyan Kaur to the whole class along with 1 to 1 feedback and guidance with each student. The attendees for this course range from being complete beginners with no prior musical experience, to people with musical experience, but who have had no prior experience with Sikh traditional Kirtan. The group classes have many positive benefits that all blossom from the magic and sweetness of community. Please allow for 30-60 minutes of practice time each day while taking the course for maximum benefit. You will need access to a harmonium, which can be ordered through our school here - https://www.kirtanandkundalini.com/shop
