Intermediate Gurmukhi (2023-A)

Service Description

I'm so excited to be sharing my passion and love of Gurmukhi with you! This class will be very full and rich, and is designed to push you out of your comfort zone and into a place where you feel confident reading on your own. In this 5-week intermediate course, we will focus on building fluency and strengthening your pronunciation of the Gurmukhi script. Diving deeply together, we will use a variety of different shabads, or Divine poetry, to guide us. These shabads can be found in the sacred writings of the Sikh tradition. In order to be successful in this course, it is important for you to have a solid understanding of the Gurmukhi alphabet, pronunciation rules, and a readiness to transition from reading isolated words, to reading full sentences. The goal of this intermediate course is to support you in deepening your journey with this sacred script, so that you feel confident and comfortable reading on your own. This course consists of 5 weekly livestream sessions via Zoom that will take place on Fridays from 10am-12pm EST. There will also be an optional reading practice to be determined in class. Classes will be recorded so that you have the opportunity to go back and watch them again for future reference and learning. Sangat Dhyan Kaur is an American Sikh who has been studying and learning Gurmukhi for the last 6 years, while living both at the Millis Ashram in Massachusetts, and now in Amritsar, India where she has fully immersed herself in the study of Gurmukhi, Gurbani Kirtan, Punjabi, and meditation. Her peaceful and meditative nature will help you to feel relaxed and comfortable while learning, and her knowledge and understanding of Gurmukhi will help you to deepen your experience with this beautiful language, and script. “When I read and connect with Gurmukhi, the language of the Gurus, something awakens within me and I feel deeply at peace and connected to God." Please note that there is an extra session built on at the end of the course. This is purely as a placeholder in case there is an unexpected need to reschedule one of the existing classes.

Cancellation Policy

Group & Private Classes can be rescheduled up to 48 hours before the class. After 48 hours there is no rescheduling or refunds allowed. Courses can be refunded up to 30 days before the start of the course, minus a $55 administration fee. After 30 days the course fee minus the $55 administration fee can be applied to another course within 1 year. After 1 year the credit will expire.
