Tabla: Chapter 3 (2023-A)

Service Description

I am thrilled to announce a third course in the Tabla series through Kirtan and Kundalini! After almost 3 years of teaching the Beginner and Intermediate courses, we have a pool of incredible, talented, and devoted tabla students, and this course has been crafted for those who wish to continue developing their practice. This course will aim to dive deeper into three areas of tabla: Vocabulary, Solo, and Accompaniment. By expanding on concepts you have already covered and learning new tabla language and types of compositions, this course will aim to give each student the means to play an extended, more advanced tabla solo. You will also walk away with a more fluent understanding of accompanying both traditional Kirtan and fusion music. We will do this by covering new taals, listening to rhythms in music from around the world, and creating our own grooves around those rhythms. We will also be expanding on the idea of using solo tabla concepts/material in our accompaniment to bring more musicality and vitality to our performance. My hope is that these courses will propel you on your journey into becoming more intuitive, musical, and well rounded tabla players, and I cannot wait to take this next step with you all! We will cover: Opening your Tabla solo (Bhumika/Uthan) Introducing Rela Exercises to improve your Tabla Paranth (Recitation) Learning New Taals Basic Tihai Theory Creating Grooves around world music rhythms More advanced tuning techniques For this course you will need: Your Tabla A tuning hammer and baby powder A laptop/tablet, and a zoom account. You will need your device to be facing you, with yourself and your instrument in full view A guitar tuner or tuning app (I recommend fender tune) Ilehra app (recommended but not obligatory) You will also have access to: Resource Page with weekly video tutorials and class recordings “Tabla Talk” and one private one to one lesson A group forum Notes in flashcard and spreadsheet format Advanced Tuning Seminar 11AM ET 1.5hr/week PLUS Tabla Talks, and one 45 minute 1-2-1 session per student. Ideally Participants will have completed both beginner and Intermediate courses prior to taking this course. Cancelation Policy

Group & Private Classes can be rescheduled up to 48 hours before the class. After 48 hours there is no rescheduling or refunds allowed. Courses can be refunded up to 30 days before the start of the course, minus a $55 administration fee. After 30 days the course fee minus the $55 administration fee can be applied to another course within 1 year. After 1 year the credit will expire.
