Ol’ Faithful February… how is it already the 2nd month of the year??
Time seems to fly by at an alarming pace, and now we find ourselves in the shortest month; but despite its shortcomings, February carries an important message - connect but be safe about it.
This month is associated with the number 2, and our 2nd Body is the infamous Negative Mind, or the preferred Protective Mind, as “negative” denotes a value judgment and this body is far from bad. In fact, it’s incredibly important, because if it wasn’t for this loudest and fastest aspect of the mind, none of us would be here today. It told ancient humans “FIRE BAD!” (among other things) well and frequently enough to keep them, and all their future generations, alive long enough to ensure the survival of our species.
Now, that’s not to say it doesn’t provide us with negative thoughts. It absolutely does, but what it’s really attempting to do is say “hey, this looks familiar to something you’ve experienced before and that thing in question hurt you, so you should stay away this time”.
The 2nd Body accesses our past memories and ancestral DNA to warn us in the present moment. But it doesn’t always get it right, and sometimes can see danger around every turn, paralyzing us with fear. This constant state of “fight or flight” is exhausting, so learning to regulate, not avoid, negative thoughts can be the difference between a mind in emergency mode and one that provides us with quick and insightful tips on what red flags and pitfalls to look out for, so we may set boundaries for ourselves and others. Label the danger, so you know it’s there, but then don’t get too bent out of shape about it.
While 1 represents the individual, the Soul, the Self; 2 symbolizes the couple, the pair, the duo. So what happens when one soul encounters another? In an effort to experience themselves and the Divine through the mirror of the “other”, there is an overwhelming urge to connect and merge; whether it be through physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual means. This can be seen quite predominantly in the energy of the 2nd Chakra, represented by the sexual system, which evolves in every living creature in one way or another to (again) ensure the survival of the species, but perhaps in more complex and emotionally intelligent life forms, to also experience an elevated form of consciousness and even a glimpse at the Divine through the polarity of the other. It’s no mistake that Valentine’s Day is in the 2nd month of the year….
So if you are feeling called to find new love or deepen an existing connection, check in and perhaps cheer on your close friends and family, reset boundaries in your personal and professional life, and make sure that the front door is locked just one more time before bed... well, ‘tis the season!
Stay warm. Stay healthy. Stay safe.
