Still Life

As I sit in silence this morning

bathed in muted shades of tangerine sunrise,

stillness engulfs and bathes me to 

quiet my soul.

Still life erupts around me…

Cat perched like a statue gazing

from the glass door,

an artificial divide between the inner and outer world.

I have created the delusion that 

“inside” I control artificial realities of order and

“outside”- the great unknown, where life

unfolds in unpredictable waves and trajectories.

I pause and look in the mirror….

I see lines of extended life

and in the creases of my eyes appear

the outline of my children and all I hold dear.
