Well, we did it. We made it through 2020; arguably one of the most challenging years we have faced in modern times. As with every challenge, all we can hope for is that we make it through [relatively] unscathed and more ourselves than when we began scaling the proverbial mountain.
With said mountain [seemingly] behind us, now is the time to look towards this New Year and all it will have to offer in the coming months. 2020 may be behind us, but it's influence will be felt for decades, if not centuries to come. It illuminated so much, but once we have this new awareness, action is the next step. These next steps are big ones, and thus January makes its debut....
The number 1, associated with the first month of the year, represents the Soul Body AKA the Spirit; that which has existed beyond time and space. But more than that, the Soul is responsible for who we are at our very core, past all the limiting identifiers we give ourselves and the false masks we wear to shield or hide our authentic selves from the world. Thus, it is the Soul that leads us towards Infinity, because the Soul itself is a finite representation of the Infinite - the One, the Creator - and its primary motivation for living, apart from the desire to experience the polarities of existence, is to eventually merge with the Infinite again.
January and it's big ONE energy carries with it the characteristics of originality, inspiration, creativity, courage, and self-initiation. The 1 energy provides the catalyst to take on new experiences, new ideas, and fresh perspectives, as the Soul is in constant search of the new and original - it did not come into being to experience the status quo for ever and ever, it wants to evolve, to learn, and to expand!
The number 1 will also represent the balance between the mind and the heart - energies which are sometimes at odds and often quite tricky to harmonize; the mind works in cold, hard math while the heart follows the flow of emotions and to rely too heavily on one vs the other can lead us into traps. The mind may think it's figured something out, but without consulting the heart, the decision it comes to may lack humanity and compassion; whereas the heart is lead by love, and while a beautiful concept, may result in heartbreak if the mind isn't given a chance to point out all the red-flags the heart may have missed along the way. As yogis, we work toward leading with the heart, but know that the mind can be our friend too, if we listen to it from time to time.
Additionally, the 1 represents the 1st Charka, the Root; responsible for elimination and security. This month will have a lot of new energy bombarding us, so we'll need to stay grounded and take stock in what baggage we are still carrying so that we may let go and make space for new life and new experiences. We have only so much allowable weight in each suitcase, so it's time to decide what stays and what goes.
So...been thinking about something you reaaallly want to do, but have just been too nervous or afraid to begin? Let this wave of energy wash over you and be the push you need to take that first step!
You may be asking "what if it fails or doesn't pay off?" Oh well! At least you can give the Soul the satisfaction of standing up in the face of challenge and perhaps working to find a new way of being. Regardless of the outcome, the Soul will still have the experience, which can never be unlearned.
