Pain and pleasure are unique experiences from the One creative energy. The yogi doesn’t favor or avoid either since both are agents of the One serving to teach the lessons to the yogi student that once are learned open the door to liberation, to unending love. The yogi yearns to be in the space of Oneness.
The illusion is that we are getting somewhere and becoming something. The reality is that we are simply waking up to the subtle truth of the One who does all.
Pain and pleasure no longer sway the yogi. Peace of mind is untouched by the two nurses of night and day. Love has filled the space. Service to humans, animals, and nature is natural. May it be so.
Sometimes I think of pleasure and pain as being yin and yang of sorts. There is a way of having so much pleasure it’s painful, or pain (for some) leading into pleasure. I think of this kid I was an au pair for. He used to run outside at dusk just so he could get mosquito bites. “Itching mosquito bites is the best feeling in the world” he would say. I think different bodies respond differently to sensations, so giving people the freedom to move the way they want to is imperative. I believe pain and pleasure are both sensations not to react to, but rather to just have awareness around their mechanisms. Then, for me, I take it in and say to myself, “Well, what is best for the world?” and move from there. That usually balances me, and balance is my heaven. Sometimes people confuse this conversation with being loved versus an unhealthy relationship. There are some things you should absolutely protect yourself from. Toxins, toxic people.... can’t be avoided but protection of the self... that’s a topic I’ve always felt should be included in the pain part of the exploration. Have a nice trip and be safe!
